Queer Dance Art Commission

Create a high-impact installation for our next parties

We are throwing open the doors, windows, DJ booths, nooks and crannies of The Lansdowne Hotel for you to design a high-impact new installation for our next All Day Queer Dance (Sun 1 October 2023).

This is an opportunity for queer artists, designers and creators of any kind to pitch an idea to bring the vibe to our next few parties.

We will pay a commissioning fee, as well as a materials and an installation fee, and there is the opportunity for your work to feature in our next series of parties throughout this year and next.

Expressions of Interest close Sunday 27 August.

What We’re Looking For

The Lansdowne is a 3-story venue that we transform for All Day Queer Dance. Our previous installation was a stunning “stained glass” window created by Xavier Marz that appeared in the stairwell.

We are looking for bright, eyecatching, high-impact artwork that brings the vibe and photographs well.

We heart community, colour, bunting, recycled materials, metallics, florals, fun and frivolity. Hit us with your ideas.

Locations

You can install your work wherever you would like in the venue. Spaces include:

  • Behind each DJ on Ground and Level 1
  • Front Stairwell & Entrance
  • Corridors
  • Cloak Room

Site plans can be made available, and we are aiming to host a site visit if there is enough interest.

Restrictions

  • Don’t make anything that takes ages to install. We’ll only have 3 hours to bump-in and install on the day.
  • It has to be safe. Nothing that will collapse, fall over or fall apart during the day.
  • It has to be reusable. Create something stunning that can be reused for our next parties. We’ll have installation and upkeep budgets available.

Fee

  • Commissioning fee of $1000
  • Materials fee of $500
  • Installation fee of $500

Total project fee: $2000
